Last week, the world saw an act of senseless violence occur in Benghazi, Libya, as the U.S. consulate was attacked and four of our fellow citizens were slain, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. These men were exemplary Americans, striving to improve a world split by hate. Though their deaths were premature, I know that they made a mark on this world and that their legacies will remain. My thoughts and prayers are with these individuals' families and loved ones during this dark time.
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today voted in favor of legislation to prevent looming defense cuts, known as sequestration, set to take effect in January, and took a stand against a short-term spending measure that delays important decisions.
Today, the House passed a "stop-gap" measure (H.J.Res. 117), a continuing resolution, to fund the government for six months into FY 2013, which begins on October 1, 2012. Wittman opposed the legislation, making the following statement:

In addition to meetings with individuals each day in my offices in Yorktown, Tappahannock, and Fredericksburg, I was also able to visit various workplaces and businesses in the First District to see firsthand the great work being accomplished.
The cleanup of the Chesapeake Bay has been lauded recently, as Gov. Bob McDonnell announced last month that Virginia was "exceeding its commitments" under the Chesapeake Bay Program and was recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency as achieving the greatest reduction of nitrogen pollution in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
