Wittman Honors Nation's Veterans

Sunday, November 11, 2012

Washington, D.C. – As the nation prepares to observe Veterans Day, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement:

"Our nation is the greatest the world has ever known due to the dedication of our servicemen and women, our veterans, and their families. Today, we recognize those brave citizens who have given so much of themselves in order to preserve the freedoms that we still enjoy today. Whether they volunteered or were drafted, our veterans are exemplary, patriotic Americans who chose service before self, devoting themselves to a cause that will echo far into this nation's future. Over the course of our history, these individuals have faced trying odds and inconceivable adversity. Many of them were wounded in the course of their duties, and many of their comrades paid the ultimate sacrifice. This debt can never be repaid.

"Veterans Day is a reminder to honor our nation's heroes, but no matter what day it is, we should always keep in mind the service and sacrifice of these patriots and their families. Each day, we are blessed to wake up in a nation where freedom and liberty are vested in our very culture, not as distant ideals, but as an actual way of life. That freedom is available to us each day because of the actions and service of our veterans and current servicemembers. I humbly thank each and every one of them, as well as their families, for their selfless devotion to this nation and to the principles of our Constitution."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He serves on the Natural Resources Committee and the Armed Services Committee where he is the Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
