Second Amendment

As a gun owner, I believe the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to keep and bear arms. No law-abiding American should be denied that constitutional right without reason or due process, and I remain committed to protecting the right to purchase, possess, and use firearms for lawful purposes.

At the same time, no child should be afraid to go to school because of the possibility of gun violence. We must be thoughtful and deliberate about improving public safety while respecting the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. That means preventing criminals from acquiring firearms, enforcing the laws already on the books, helping law enforcement identify and respond to warning signs of violence, strengthening school security, and expanding access to mental and behavioral health services.

Throughout my time in Congress, I have supported legislation to improve the accuracy and completeness of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, help schools and law enforcement prevent and respond to potential violence, and provide additional resources for mental health and behavioral services. These targeted solutions address genuine threats without imposing one-size-fits-all restrictions on responsible gun owners.

I will continue working to protect the constitutional rights of my constituents—including the rights to privacy and to bear arms—while advancing effective solutions that keep firearms out of the hands of violent criminals and help make our schools and communities safer.

Legislative Work

• Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2025 (H.R. 38) — Cosponsored legislation that would allow eligible individuals who may legally carry a concealed handgun in their home state to exercise that right in other states, subject to applicable state laws.
• Hearing Protection Act (H.R. 404) — Original cosponsor of legislation that would remove suppressors from regulation under the National Firearms Act and reduce unnecessary barriers for lawful gun owners seeking to protect their hearing while hunting or participating in recreational shooting.
• Fix NICS Act of 2017 (H.R. 4477) — Supported legislation enacted as part of the Fiscal Year 2018 government funding law to improve the submission of records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System and help prevent prohibited individuals from purchasing firearms.
• STOP School Violence Act of 2018 (H.R. 4909) — Supported legislation to provide schools and law enforcement with resources to improve security and help prevent, recognize, and respond to warning signs of violence.
