HENRICO, VA – This week, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01), joined by Henrico County Supervisor Tommy Branin, Virginia Secretary of Transportation Shep Miller, and Federal Highway Administration Division Administrator Thomas L. Nelson, met with Henrico County Officials to hear about traffic congestion and safety concerns in the Short Pump area as well as the benefits of a proposed interchange at North Gayton Road. Following the presentation, the group toured portions of Interstate 64 and West Broad Street.
“The safety of folks traveling throughout Virginia remains a top priority, and the recurring congestion and pattern of crashes on the Westbound I-64 and Short Pump areas poses an incredible concern and challenge for Henrico County,” said Congressman Wittman. “Henrico County officials have done an incredible job of laying out potential solutions, including an interchange at North Gayton Road, that would greatly alleviate this congestion and work to keep drivers and passengers safe. To accomplish this goal and see this project through, we must have cooperation on local, state, and federal levels – these challenges require a whole-of-government approach. I am grateful to Henrico County for hosting us for this presentation and ride along tour, and I look forward to working with the county and state to implement these solutions and seeing this project through to the end.”
