Wittman Statement on DACA Program

WASHINGTON- Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) issued the following statement following the Trump administration’s announcement to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“Congress, not the executive branch, should be writing the laws of our nation. President Obama’s DACA program, was a clear example of executive overreach. President Trump’s announcement is trying to right this wrong by calling on Congress to act. Since the president’s announcement does not immediately revoke permits, Congress has the time to come together to create a workable, permanent solution for those in the program. This is one of the many immigration issues Congress has yet to address. To move forward, we must address border security and enforcement as well as better applying current immigration laws on the books. We must come together, House and Senate, to produce immigration policy the right way, through regular order.”

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is the Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
