Wittman Commends President Trump's Border Security Executive Orders

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) released the following statement commending President Trump for his executive orders on border security:

“For four years, the Biden-Harris administration turned a blind eye to the border crisis they created, failing to even acknowledge the problem,” said Congressman Wittman. “Instead, their policies encouraged illegal immigration by offering taxpayer-funded health care and amnesty for those who circumvented the legal process. Border security is a matter of national security, and the actions taken by President Trump reflect the leadership we need to address this crisis head-on. President Trump’s executive actions send a clear and unmistakable message: the United States will no longer tolerate illegal crossings and an endless flow of deadly drugs into our country. We must secure our borders, protect our communities, and uphold the rule of law.”

Background

President Trump issued the following executive orders to secure the southern border:

  • Declaring a National Emergency: This move unlocks new authorities the federal government can use to deploy resources to border states and regain operational control.

  • Combating Drug Cartels: Recognizing the threats posed by organizations like Tren de Aragua and MS-13, the White House has declared these groups as national security threats and is moving toward designating them as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. This designation would empower authorities to impose sanctions and financial penalties to disrupt their operations.

  • Ending Catch and Release: Migrants will no longer be allowed to remain in the United States while awaiting their immigration court hearings.

  • Restoring the “Remain in Mexico” Policy: The administration has reinstated the requirement for asylum seekers to remain in Mexico while their cases are processed, ensuring that immigration proceedings are orderly and secure.

  • Constructing a Physical Barrier: The administration reaffirmed its commitment to building a physical wall and additional barriers at the southern border, supported by advanced technology and personnel to enhance security.

  • Terminating Mass Parole Programs: The White House ended the Biden-Harris administration’s programs that facilitated mass parole along with the CBP One app.
