WASHINGTON- Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01), Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, released the following statement following his August 26th meeting with U.S. Forces-Korea Commander Vincent K. Brooks during his visit to the Republic of Korea.

"After meeting with GEN Vincent Brooks, Commander, US Forces-Korea, I remain encouraged by our US military's ability to counter any threat posed by North Korea. It is imperative that the United States maintains a leadership role in the Pacific in order to protect our own homeland, ensure regional stability, and reassure our valued allies such as South Korea, Japan, and Guam."

During their visit to the Republic of Korea, Rep. Wittman and Rep. Madeleine Bordallo (D-Guam), Ranking Member of the Readiness Subcommittee, met with U.S. Forces-Korea Commander Vincent K. Brooks, visited the Joint Security Area and the Demilitarized Zone, as well as received an overview of Exercise Ulchi-Freedom Guardian. The annual exercise, built around defensive operations to include command-and-control drills, is crucial to maintaining readiness, both with Korean partners and state allies. Such joint exercises allow the Republic of Korea-U.S. Alliance to remain strong and continue its long history of deterring aggression on the Korean Peninsula.

The visit to the Republic of Korea is part of a Congressional Delegation visit led by Rep. Wittman to the Pacific Command Area of Responsibilities, which has also included visits to Taipei Taiwan, Delhi India, and Mumbai India before departing the Republic of Korea.
