Wittman votes to defund Planned Parenthood

"It is unconscionable to think that taxpayer dollars are being given to an organization that finds this behavior humane. I strongly believe that we must fundamentally change the way the federal government deals with this organization."

WASHINGTON - Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement after supporting the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 3504) and the Defund Planned Parenthood Act (H.R. 3134):

“I was adopted as an infant; therefore, this issue of preserving life is very personal to me.

“The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act holds health care professionals accountable for prioritizing the health and well-being of children born alive after abortions, making sure that they take every effort necessary to preserve the lives of these patients.

“If a child suffered a ruptured artery or seizure during a surgery, a surgeon would do everything possible to save his or her life. Children born alive after abortions deserve the same level of commitment and care as a child facing any other medical emergency.

“I was also proud to support legislation to defund Planned Parenthood. I would have preferred the funding ban to be permanent rather than only a year. Regardless, the barbaric nature of the videos that have recently surfaced cannot be ignored, and it is unconscionable to think that taxpayer dollars are being given to an organization that finds this behavior humane.

“I strongly believe that we must fundamentally change the way the federal government deals with this organization.”

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
