August 7, 2008: Congressman Wittman Announces Rural Development Grant and Loan

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman announced the award of a $1.5 million grant and a $1.5 million loan to Westmoreland County, which will finance the second phase of a public sewer project.

"With the County of Westmoreland growing at a constant rate, it is our responsibility to continue to provide the best services and cleanest water to our community and its citizens," said Wittman.

This grant and loan, along with county funding, will complete the installation of a vacuum station, vacuum sewer line, force main, and airvac pits. Wastewater will be treated at the Town of Colonial Beach's existing wastewater treatment plant and will serve an additional 573 residential users, an elementary school and 12 other businesses.

The grant is awarded via the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Program, Water and Waste Development fund.  The loan will be a 40-year loan at a rate of 2.75%. Previous funding for the first phase of the project includes a loan of $3,003,000 and a grant of $1,013,800 in FY 2006. Additional funding provided by the County of Westmoreland includes $562,000 from existing county funds and $2,404,700 to be obtained from tap fees.

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia.  He was elected to replace the late Rep. Jo Ann Davis in a special election last December.
