August 7, 2008: Congressman Wittman Visits Local Refinery, Calls for a Comprehensive Energy Policy
Washington, D.C.,
August 7, 2008
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman toured the Western Refining Company's Yorktown Refinery in Yorktown, VA yesterday, meeting with refinery workers and highlighting the need for action on a comprehensive energy policy.
"Cutting bureaucratic red tape to increase refinery capacity is critical, both for solving the energy crisis and creating more American jobs. An expansion here at Yorktown Refinery would mean more jobs in the First District and lower gas prices," said Wittman. "We haven't built a refinery in the US in over three decades. It's a common sense solution and it needs to be part of a comprehensive energy policy that includes domestic energy production, alternative and renewable energy, and conservation," said Wittman. Wittman is working in the First District for the month of August, but is dedicating a significant portion of his time to pushing for a vote on energy. After attending the start of the GOP House floor protest on Friday, he traveled to DC on Monday to speak on the floor and call for a vote on Energy policy. He also held two telephone town-halls with hundreds of constituents this week where he listened to concerns about skyrocketing energy prices in the face of Congressional inaction. |
