July 31, 2008: Congressman Wittman Sponsors Legislation Congratulating the University of Mary Washington on 100 Years of Service

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman introduced House Resolution 1387 this week congratulating the University of Mary Washington on its centennial year of service and leadership to Virginia and the United States.

"Over the last century, the University of Mary Washington's leadership and faculty have built a first rate university and contributed substantially to Virginia's legacy.  Today, the University of Mary Washington is an outstanding institution and an invaluable member of the Fredericksburg regional community," said Wittman.

Wittman's legislation is cosponsored by every member of the Virginia delegation and has been referred to the House Committee on Education and Labor.

"Speaking on behalf of the University community, I am deeply appreciative of Congressman Wittman's introduction of this resolution," commented Judy Hample, who assumed leadership of UMW as its eighth president on July 1.

"As we enter our second century, the University is poised to build on its long tradition of service as a premier public institution," said Hample.
