June 12, 2008: Congressman Wittman announces airport funding for Newport News terminal expansion

(Washington, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman announced the award of a $7.32 Million grant to fund expansion of the B Terminal at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.

The funds, awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will pay for six additional gates and help accommodate for forecasted growth at the airport.

"In the past decade, the number of passengers using Newport News/Williamsburg International each year has more than doubled.  This terminal expansion funding will help us keep pace with growing demand and sustain our efforts to grow business and tourism throughout the Peninsula," said Wittman.

This grant is awarded as part of the Aviation Improvement Program (AIP) and is paid for completely by aviation user taxes and fees.  The AIP is the FAA's program for modernizing and enhancing the nation's airports.  Currently, over one million passengers use Newport News/Williamsburg International annually.
