Wittman Statement on Keeping the Government Open

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) voted in favor of the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act to ensure the continuity of government operations, fund critical services for Americans, and reduce the national debt.

“Funding the federal government is a constitutional obligation — today I voted to uphold that duty,” said Congressman Wittman. “This straightforward continuing resolution ensures the government remains open and working for Americans. It funds veterans’ services, includes the largest pay raise for junior enlisted troops in over 40 years, and maintains critical services for our constituents like roads, parks, child care, water projects, infrastructure improvements, scientific research, and job training. A continuing resolution is not what I wanted, but shutting down the government is irresponsible and wastes taxpayer dollars. I remain committed to fixing our broken government funding process, which is why I’ve continued to introduce legislation to prevent Congress from resorting to these completely avoidable crisis situations.”

Key Provisions of the
Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act:

  • Extends funding at current discretionary levels through Sept. 30, 2025, preventing a government shutdown and ensuring essential services continue.
  • Maintains government operations without increasing the spending of taxpayer dollars.
  • Upholds responsibilities to our nation’s veterans and ensures full funding for their healthcare services and benefits.
  • Enhances defense investments and includes the largest pay raise for junior enlisted troops in over 40 years.
  • Protects Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid recipients from the disruptions and confusion a shutdown will cause.
  • Increases funding for air traffic control priorities over FY24.
  • Fully funds the program that provides important nutrition assistance to mothers, infants, and children.

Congressman Wittman has consistently introduced legislation to fix the government budget and funding process:
