WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) announced his reappointment to serve on the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the United States and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for the 119th Congress by Speaker Mike Johnson. The committee is responsible for assessing the threats to the economy and national security posed by the Chinese government and proposing plans to ensure a strong American future. "The Chinese Communist Party remains America’s greatest adversary, and we must confront China’s military, economic, and diplomatic coercion while countering its hostile agenda,” said Congressman Wittman. “During the 118th Congress, the committee did incredible work to highlight the need to restore supply chains, end economic dependence on China, strengthen our military, and stop the CCP’s theft of American data and intellectual property. This is not a partisan issue—Republicans and Democrats in Congress remain united against the CCP’s malign influence. I appreciate Speaker Johnson and Chairman Moolenaar for their leadership in renewing this critical committee and stand ready to build on our work from the past two years.” "Rep. Rob Wittman is a crucial addition to our efforts as we confront the growing threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party,” said Chairman John Moolenaar. “The CCP represents the most significant national and economic security challenge of our time, and Rep. Wittman’s experience and leadership will play a key role as we build upon the bipartisan work started in the 118th Congress. I am grateful to Speaker Johnson for his continued support, and I look forward to collaborating with Rep. Wittman and our colleagues to advance policies that will keep the United States strong and secure as we address the escalating challenges posed by China." Congressman Wittman served as lead of the Select Committee’s Critical Minerals Policy Working Group during the 118th Congress and held roundtable discussions with experts on recycling and polymetallic nodule harvesting, forced labor and sustainability in critical mineral supply chains, and the United States' import reliance on critical minerals and the implications of China’s orchestrated price manipulation and supply shocks.
