February 27, 2008: Congressman Rob Wittman Introduces Legislation to Name Gloucester Post Office in Honor of Jo Ann Davis

(Washington, D.C.) - Congressman Robert J. Wittman (R-VA) introduced H.R. 5489 yesterday to name the U.S. Post Office in Gloucester, Virginia, after late-U.S. Representative Jo Ann Davis of Virginia’s First District.

“As the first Republican woman elected to serve Virginia in Congress, Jo Ann Davis was known for being honest, hard working, and a source of inspiration to all who knew her,” said Congressman Wittman.

“Jo Ann worked tirelessly for America’s First District, the Commonwealth, and the nation.  This tribute to her sacrifice and service will preserve her legacy as a diligent and devoted servant of the people. Her dedication to the First District merits the honor of having the post office in her hometown, Gloucester, Virginia bear her name,” added Congressman Wittman.

Jo Ann Davis began her political career in 1997 when she was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates.  Three years later she was elected to the House of Representatives, where she served until her untimely passing in October of 2007.
