Washington, D.C. - Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement today after supporting H. Res. 676, a resolution allowing the Speaker of the House to initiate civil litigation to halt President Obama’s overreach in implementing the Affordable Care Act and to restore the appropriate shared structure of federal power envisioned by the Founding Fathers.
“It is unfortunate that the Executive Branch has forced the House to take this step. However, the President’s unilateral actions to both ignore and make his own laws, including during implementation of the Affordable Care Act, require the Legislative Branch to act to defend the constitutional principles central to our form of government.
“Our Founding Fathers crafted a system of balanced power and adherence to the rule of law, which has stood the test of time. This effort simply holds the President to his constitutional duty to faithfully execute the law. The American people deserve accountability.“
H. Res. 676 passed the House of Representatives today by a vote of 225-201.
Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee where he is the Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
