Montross, Va – Virginia First District Representative Rob Wittman (VA-1) will visit Rappahannock Oyster Company TOMORROW, Thursday, May 15, 2014. Wittman will tour the Oyster Farm and shuck oysters with the Oyster Company employees. Wittman’s visit will also feature discussion of issues relating to small business, as well as the integral role of the Chesapeake Bay in the region. Wittman will also present a copy of his recent remarks honoring the local business and recognizing Virginia’s rebounding oyster industry in the Congressional Record.
The visit comes during National Small Business Week, May 12 through May 16, 2014, which honors the vital role of small business across the United States.

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia where he brings his unique professional expertise in water quality, fisheries, and other natural resource issues. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee, where he also serves on the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, and the Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife and Oceans and Insular Affairs. Wittman serves as co-chair of the Congressional Chesapeake Bay Watershed Caucus, which brings together members from the Chesapeake Bay watershed region to discuss issues related to the Bay and Bay clean-up. Rob He is a champion of the Chesapeake Bay -- for its environmental and economic attributes -- and has introduced legislation that will increase the accountability and effectiveness of cleaning up the Bay Prior to his election to Congress, Rob spent 26 years working in state government, most recently as Field Director for the Virginia Health Department's Division of Shellfish Sanitation. Earlier, he worked for many years as an environmental health specialist for local health departments in Virginia's Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula regions.
He recently received the Sustainable Fisheries Award from the Virginia Watermen’s Association, for his efforts over the years to support sustainable fisheries. This award is presented by fishermen and other fishery stakeholders to Members of Congress for their consistent and outspoken support for policies to improve the management and sustainability of fisheries throughout the United States.
Wittman holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, a Master of Public Health degree in Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Virginia Tech.
