Wittman Statement Ahead of First Hearing for Select Committee on the CCP

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01), Vice Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement ahead of the first hearing held by the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), “The Chinese Communist Party’s Threat to America:”

“I want to make one thing very clear to the Americans tuning in tonight. The Chinese Communist Party is a threat to the United States. The CCP actively undermines the US in the world economy, attempts to use the tools of our open democracy against us, and Beijing is intent on building a military capable of challenging the United States well beyond the Indo-Pacific. Beijing has no problem with exploiting our financial systems, illegally seizing the natural resources of the United States and our friends, insidiously attempting to shape the views of our children by shaping their media use, and more.

“At tonight’s hearing, we will emphasize and re-commit to the message that the United States will not be intimidated by Xi Jinping. The Biden Administration has not demonstrated any serious plan or strategy countering the Chinese Communist Party’s malignant rise. Fortunately, as this committee demonstrates, we are ready to work in a bipartisan way to hold the CCP accountable.

“I am grateful to Chairman Gallagher for his leadership on this committee, and I am ready tackle the challenges from the CCP head on. This is just the beginning, and our work here is long overdue.”

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he serves as the Vice Chairman of the full committee and as the Chairman of the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee.
