WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01), Vice Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in response to Vladimir Putin suspending Russia’s participation in New START:
“Given Putin’s increasingly aggressive behavior in Ukraine and on the world stage, his decision to suspend Russia’s participation in New START unfortunately comes as no surprise. Putin’s announcement should serve as a strong reminder that we must continue to modernize our nuclear triad, improve the readiness of our current systems, and reject the Biden administration’s dangerous efforts to cancel key programs like the Nuclear Sea Launched Cruise Missile.
“I will continue to work with my colleagues on the House Armed Services Committee to ensure Putin is held accountable—the United States will not be intimidated.”
Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he serves as the Vice Chairman of the full committee and as the Chairman of the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee.
