Wittman Statement on CCP Spy Balloon Flying over the United States

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01), Vice Chairman on the House Armed Services Committee and senior member on the House Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), released the following statement in response to a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) spy balloon flying over the United States:

“This Chinese spy balloon should have never been able to enter U.S. airspace - the Biden administration’s unwillingness to protect the sovereignty of our air space and clearly identified sensitive sites is astonishing. The CCP has proven time and again to be an untrustworthy and unreliable negotiator - we are demonstrating weakness to our most aggressive adversary and inviting the Chinese Communist Party to flagrantly compromise our domestic security. The White House was aware of this threat for several days and chose to leave the CCP intelligence asset above our homeland. This is unacceptable and we will ensure Beijing is held accountable.”
