WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) was named Vice Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and Chairman of the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee for the 118th Congress. Congressman Wittman most recently served as the Ranking Member on the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee. On the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee, Congressman Wittman will oversee the largest portfolio of modernization programs on the House Armed Services Committee, with vast ramifications for the future of the U.S. military’s ground and air forces and munitions stockpiles.
“I am honored to return to the House Armed Services Committee and serve as the Vice Chairman for the full committee and as Chairman of the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee,” said Congressman Wittman. “I will work tirelessly to balance the demands of our immediate threats with the modernization efforts required for the United States to prevail in this era of long-term Great Power Competition – while always putting our service members first. I will also continue to promote and support close relationships with our allies and partners to pursue common goals and shared security objectives, the importance of which has been particularly evident in the last year throughout Russia’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine. Furthermore, in light of the ongoing war in Ukraine and rising tension in the Indo-Pacific as a result of increasing aggression from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), it will be important to urgently replenish our inventories of relevant weapons systems, ammunitions, and assets. I will also focus on opportunities to improve the efficiency of the Department of Defense to ensure that Americans are building the strongest military possible as a result of the investments we make in our national defense. I am confident that this Congress, under Chairman Rogers’ leadership, we will remain a strong, bipartisan committee, and I am deeply appreciative of his trust in my leadership role for this committee.”
“Rep. Rob Wittman has been a strong leader on the House Armed Services Committee and I am grateful that he will continue his leadership as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces,” Chairman Mike Rogers (R-AL) said. “Rep. Wittman brings a wealth of knowledge on systems and platforms that our warfighters need to win on the battlefield. I know he will push to make sure that our warfighters have access to the weapons and resources they need to continue to be the most lethal and capable force in the world.”
The Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee conducts oversight of ammunition programs, Army and Air Force acquisition programs, all Navy and Marine Corps tactical aviation programs, and National Guard and Army and Air Force National Guard and Reserve. This subcommittee authorizes procurement and R&D programs to ensure that America’s solider and airmen are fully equipped to carry out their mission and keep our nation safe. As a Member of the Armed Services Committee since he came to Congress in 2007, Congressman Wittman has previously served as Chairman and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Readiness, and Ranking Member and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
