Wittman Congratulates Congressional Art Competition Winner

Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) had the opportunity today to congratulate the First Congressional District of Virginia’s winner of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition. Emily Krupp of Woodbridge, Virginia, submitted the winning artwork, entitled Pixel Collision. Emily will be a junior at C.D. Hylton High School in the fall.

“I am pleased to congratulate Emily on her winning submission which will be on display in the historic U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. for a year,” Wittman said. “Emily’s work will be seen by thousands of visitors, and is a wonderful representation of the talent and ambition of students in America’s First District. My thanks also goes to all those who participated in the contest.”

Artwork Description

Pixel Collision is a piece that shows how all of the arts come together. Dancing, music, computer graphics and drawing are combined though a pixilated grid.

Background

Each spring, a high school arts competition is sponsored by the Congressional Institute and by each Member of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nation-wide competition.

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee where he is the Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
