WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) announced his support for the Proper Leadership to Align Networks (PLAN) for Broadband Act. This bipartisan bill, which Congressman Wittman co-sponsors, requires the President to develop a national strategy to close the digital divide and a plan to implement that strategy. This legislation is based on a Government Accountability Office report that found federal broadband efforts are fragmented and overlapping and recommended that the President develop a national broadband strategy.
“Broadband has the potential to revolutionize the way rural populations, families, students, and businesses live their lives,” said Congressman Wittman. “As highlighted by the challenges in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is critical that we address barriers to broadband expansion in unserved and underserved areas throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and the nation. This legislation is a positive step in recognizing the need for a broadband strategy and in implementing that strategy on a national level. I am grateful to my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for introducing this bill, and I look forward to advocating for it to become law.”
