STATEMENT: Wittman on April’s Jobs Report

WASHINGTON- Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) released the following statement in response to last month’s jobs report:

“Joe Biden just told us that America is on the move again. But based on April’s Jobs Report, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Despite every expectation to the contrary, there was little change to unemployment. Our current economic stagnation shouldn’t come as a surprise. This is a direct result, or lack thereof, of Joe Biden’s anti-growth policies. These policies have resulted in pay losses for working-class Americans, continued high unemployment and a growing sense of dread among workers who fear they may lose pay or their income in the next month. In spite of economic woes, President Biden continues to pushing shockingly anti-growth policies, including some of the largest tax hikes in American history.

“If Joe Biden truly wishes to, as President Kennedy once campaigned on, “Get America Moving Again,” then he must embrace economic freedom and the prosperity that comes with it. We need less government, not more. We need to maintain the tax levels established by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, not massive hikes. And finally, we must have faith in industry and ingenuity of the American spirit as we fully reopen the economy as safely and expediently as possible.

“We know a bright new dawn is just over the horizon. But we can only get there if we work together. I hope to see President Biden, Speaker Pelosi and my colleagues across the aisle join us in the pursuit of an economy strong enough to support the dreams and potential of every American.”

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he serves as the ranking member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
