Washington, DC – Chairman Howard P. "Buck" McKeon, joined by over 30 Republican members of the House Armed Services Committee today transmitted their recommendations to the Joint Select Committee.  In their letter Armed Services Republicans urged the Super Committee to find savings in entitlement programs and take no further funding from America's military.

In an opinion column appearing in today's Wall Street Journal  McKeon urged the Joint Select Committee not to take "a penny more from defense."  McKeon explained, "American safety and economic security rest on the shoulders of the U.S. military. Lately it seems we have taken their sacrifices for granted. From here forward, Washington—the super committee, Congress generally, and the president—must focus on the real drivers of our debt, namely entitlements and social welfare, not on the protector of our prosperity."

Signers of Committee Recommendations:
Reps. McKeon, Bartlett, Thornberry, Jones, Akin, Forbes, Miller, Wilson, LoBiondo, Turner, Rogers, Franks, Shuster, Conaway, Lamborn, Wittman, Hunter, Fleming, Rooney, Platts, Rigell, Hartzler, Heck, Schilling, Runyan, Scott, Griffin, Palazzo, West, Roby, Brooks, and Young
