Washington, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) released the following statement on a resolution passed by the House, introduced by Speaker John Boehner:

“I strongly support Speaker Boehner's resolution to require the President to give a full report of U.S. involvement in Libya and the future objectives to the Congress. Dedicating U.S. resources and especially lives, we must demand accountability. I believe it is critical we understand what our mission in Libya is and that Congress assert its Constitutional responsibility under the War Powers Act to approve or disapprove this operation. I look forward to receiving more information on U.S. operations in Libya from the President, and sharing that information with my constituents looking for answers.”

The resolution (1) establishes that the president has not asked for congressional authorization, and that the Congress has not granted it; (2) reasserts Congress’ constitutional role on funding; (3) requires the president to provide within 14 days information on the mission that should have been provided from the start; and (4) reaffirms the vote we took last week that says there should be no troops on the ground.
