January 11, 2011: Congressman Wittman Lauds United States Marine Corps Move to Yorktown

Washington, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today applauded the United States Marine Corps announcement that their Security Force Regiment, including two Fleet Anti-terrorism Teams (FAST) Companies, and the Regimental Headquarters will be relocating to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown from Camp Allen, Norfolk, VA and Naval Station Norfolk respectively, resulting in the consolidation of the Marine Corps Security Forces Regiment (MCSFR) units at Naval Weapons Stations Yorktown. Currently, only 2nd FAST Company is based out of Naval Weapons Station Yorktown. These Companies provide Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Platoons to the Fleet and Combatant Commanders around the world to protect vital Naval assets.

“America’s First District is home to so many Marines, and we are pleased to welcome this addition of approximately 800 Marines, Sailors, and civilians, and effective consolidation of critical training here in Yorktown,” Wittman said. “As I have worked with the Marines on this issue in the past months, Yorktown has consistently stood as a great venue, providing the resources they needed for consolidation.”

Consolidation at Yorktown will provide a complete security force training and operations complex in this region to improve mission training capabilities and operational readiness to meet current and future mission requirements. Upon completion of the transition, approximately 1,100 Marines, Sailors and civilians will be working aboard Naval Weapons Station Yorktown. According to the Marine Corps, the move will begin in June 2011.

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He was elected to his second full term in November 2010 and serves on the Natural Resources Committee and the Armed Services Committee where he is the Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
