January 5, 2011: Congressman Wittman “humbled and honored to represent every citizen of America’s First District”

Washington, DC – After election to his second full term, Representative Rob Wittman (VA-1) took the oath of office today and was sworn-in as a Member of the 112th Congress.

“As our new Speaker of the House John Boehner said today, ‘Our aim will be to give government back to the people,’” Wittman said. “It is the people’s House. I am humbled and honored by the responsibility to represent every citizen of America’s First District for a second full term in the U.S. House of Representatives. My service to this district will continue to be rooted in the Constitution and the distinguished oath of office we took today. I will support responsible governing. I will support a more transparent, responsible and accountable government. I will support legislation to get spending under control, measures to bolster our economy and our nation’s security. As we mark this historic day, we also honor and thank our servicemen and women, who have bravely served in years past and still do today, to protect, sustain and promote freedom in this great country, and across the globe. The operation of our government, the ceremonies today, and my ability to serve only occurs because of their great sacrifices and the sacrifices of their families.”

In some of his first official business, Wittman signed onto legislation today to reform the tax code, repeal the health care overhaul legislation, ease the burdens on small businesses, and incentivize job creation in the United States. Wittman will re-introduce his legislation tomorrow which passed out of the House last Congress, the Chesapeake Bay Accountability and Recovery Act.

Wittman will serve on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Natural Resources Committee, and as the Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
