Washington, DC - Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement today after House Democratic leaders brought legislation to the floor for a vote which will raise taxes on Americans:

"The simple truth is this - higher taxes do not get anyone hired. This legislation shows complete disregard for folks employed by small businesses across America's First District, Virginia and across this country - that's why I opposed this bill," Wittman said. "We must extend tax cuts across the board. We cannot afford to raise taxes on hard-working Americans when unemployment remains at 9.6 percent, folks are struggling to find jobs and our economy continues to churn slowly. Congress certainly must also address the debt and deficit problem, but we must do so by balancing the budget, not by sending more money to Washington, DC, I believe we should keep hard-earned taxpayer dollars in our communities to get our economy moving again. I look forward to supporting a bill that extends all tax cuts."
