September 29, 2010: Congressman Wittman Supports NASA Authorization Legislation
Washington, D.C.,
September 29, 2010
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation authorizing the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) funding levels for fiscal years 2011 through 2013. Wittman supported S. 3729, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Authorization Act of 2010, which sets funding levels for NASA programs including human space flight and exploration, aeronautics research and development, and scientific research. The legislation passed by a vote of 304-118.
“I’m pleased the House passed this legislation to provide direction and continuity for NASA and to fund the critical science, aeronautics, and space technology missions at the NASA Langley Research Center,” Wittman said. “A strong investment in NASA is critical to ensuring our competitive edge and our national and economic security. I am also pleased that the bill requires NASA to coordinate with the Federal Aviation Administration to achieve accelerated development and demonstration of the Next Generation Air Transportation Program.”
Congressman Wittman and members of the Virginia Congressional Delegation have invited NASA Administrator Bolden to meet with them to discuss the critical role the Langley Research Center plays in the future of NASA.
“Ambassador Bolden has committed to a Langley visit in the near future, and we will continue to work with him to make that happen,” Wittman said.
