May 19, 2010: Committee Adopts Wittman Measure Supporting Military Families
Washington, D.C.,
May 19, 2010
Washington, DC – Today, the House Armed Services Committee adopted an amendment authored by Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) aimed at helping military spouses with employment programs and opportunities. The amendment was accepted during consideration of H.R. 5136, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2011 (NDAA) and will be included in the annual legislation as it moves forward. “We cannot thank our military families enough for their service to our country. Each and every day they make true sacrifices to support their family members serving in harm’s way and we are all truly grateful. I am pleased that the Committee today adopted my measure to ensure we adequately support military spouses with employment opportunities and programs. This report will be key to review the current programs and policies in place, and if changes are needed, to recommend what we can do to reform those policies to improve our support of military families,” Wittman said. The amendment directs the Government Accountability Office to conduct a study and provide an overview of what the Department of Defense is currently doing to support military spouses with employment programs and opportunities. In addition, the report must also provide recommendations on how the Department of Defense can improve current programs. Congressman Wittman is committed to supporting military families around the nation and in Commonwealth of Virginia, and is a member of the Congressional Military Families Caucus. Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He serves on the Natural Resources Committee and the Armed Services Committee where he is the Ranking Member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. |
