February 23, 2010: Congressman Wittman Statement on VA Congressional Delegation Meeting with Gov. Bob McDonnell
Washington, D.C.,
February 23, 2010
Washington D.C. - Today, after a meeting between Gov. Bob McDonnell and the Virginia Congressional Delegation, Congressman Rob Wittman released the following statement: "I was pleased today by both the effort and substance of the Virginia Congressional Delegation’s meeting with Governor McDonnell. His trip to Washington made it clear that he will be our partner in a number of efforts which are important to the citizens of the First District and the Commonwealth. First, his effort to make Virginia a leader in energy production is something I have been calling for since arriving to Congress. He realizes the potential these untapped resources have for our future. "The Governor and my fellow delegation members also know the severe impact of a potential aircraft carrier move from Norfolk to Mayport, Florida. There was across the board consensus that this is an issue which transcends party and district lines. "Finally, the Governor shares my interests on the proposed Chesapeake Bay Reauthorization legislation pending in Congress. We all know the Bay is a resource rich in heritage and commerce. However, there remains work to be done to address the concerns of localities, farmers, and homebuilders along the Bay Watershed. Gov. McDonnell faces a number of challenges over the next four years of his term, and I look forward to working with him and my colleagues in Congress to advocate for the Commonwealth and its future." Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He was elected to his first full term in November 2008 and serves on the Natural Resources Committee and the Armed Services Committee where he is the Ranking Member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. |
