October 13, 2009: Congressman Wittman Statement on U.S. Navy's 234th Birthday
Washington, D.C.,
October 13, 2009
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Rob Wittman issued the following statement congratulating the U.S. Navy on its 234th birthday.
"234 years ago, the Continental Congress authorized the creation of a two ship naval force to hunt down British munitions supply ships. Today, the U.S. Navy has grown to 283 ships strong, and has projected from the shallow shores of America's 13 colonies to a blue water force spanning the globe. I have had the pleasure of serving as a Co-Chair of the Congressional Shipbuilding Caucus and as a member of the Seapower and Expeditionary Forces Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee and have witnessed firsthand our Sailors continued call to uphold the Navy's tradition of ‘Honor, Courage, and Commitment'. Our Sailors are the finest in the world, and I want to thank them and their families for the sacrifices they make every day. I congratulate the U.S. Navy on its 234th Birthday and look forward to its continued success." Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He was elected to his first full term in November 2008 and serves on the Natural Resources Committee and the Armed Services Committee where he is the Ranking Member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. |
