Washington, D.C.,
September 17, 2009
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Rob Wittman announced the award of a grant of $652,080 to the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation for construction of two bus facilities for Bay Transit. Specifically, the project will consolidate and streamline administrative, maintenance, dispatching and training functions in Warsaw, VA. Currently, the organization's facilities are scattered throughout the region in Warsaw and the Middle Peninsula.
"For many residents of the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula, mobility is an every day concern. Bay Transit does an excellent job providing our area with much-needed public transportation, and this project will enable them to more efficiently provide these services," said Wittman. Bay Transit, a division of the non-profit Bay Aging, operates a public transportation bus system serving nine counties and three towns on the Middle Peninsula and the Northern Neck. The grant for the facility's construction is allocated from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration. Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He was elected to his first full term in November 2008 and serves on the Natural Resources Committee and the Armed Services Committee where he is the Ranking Member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. |
