Wittman Offices Open During Shutdown

WASHINGTON – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) released this statement regarding the shutdown of the federal government:

“I am here, ready to work. My offices both in D.C. and the district are open and I want the constituents of the First District to know that myself and my staff are here and ready to answer any questions. Over the next few days, I will be working tirelessly with my colleagues to resolve this. Our federal employees should not be penalized for Congress’ inability to get its job done on time, which is why Representative Beyer (VA-8) and I introduced legislation that would guarantee back pay to all furloughed federal workers. I also support any legislation that would ensure pay for our men and women in uniform.

“This shutdown means that now, more than ever, it is absolutely critical that Congress get back to passing a budget and appropriations bills on time. We can’t continue to find ourselves in these completely avoidable, crisis situations. We must work for a long-term solution that will provide a path to fiscal certainty for both our armed services and our federal agencies. It’s imperative that Congress be held accountable; therefore I am having my pay withheld and I will be donating it to charity.”

Congressman Wittman has information available on his website regarding closings during the shutdown along with emergency resources. Constituents should call the D.C. office 202-225-4261, or the closest district office to them in Stafford (540-659-2734) , Hanover (804-730-6595), or Tappahannock (804-443-0668) with any questions or comments.

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is the Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
