July 9, 2009: Congressman Wittman Helps Give Wounded Vets A Lift

Washington, D.C. - Rob Wittman today announced a $1.2 million Federal Highway Administration (FHA) grant for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).  The money will be used to develop a transportation program for training and job placement of veterans who are undergoing physical and mental rehabilitation.

"This money will help Veterans who have made incredible sacrifices for our country to get back on their feet.  By developing this transportation program, we eliminate a significant barrier for many injured veterans and place them one step closer to securing meaningful employment," said Wittman

The On-the-Job Training and Supportive Services program was established to support State training programs by providing services to highway construction contractors and assistance to construction apprentices and trainees.

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He was elected to his first full term in November 2008 and serves on the Natural Resources Committee and the Armed Services Committee where he is the Ranking Member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
