Friend-

One of my top priorities in Congress is to ensure that the benefits afforded our men and women in uniform, earned through sacrifice and hardship, are protected and that we hold the VA accountable to its responsibility to provide care for our veterans. Just this session, we have passed 28 veterans related bills out of the House and eight have gone on to become law; our work in the House has increased accountability at the VA and given our veterans improved access and more choices when it comes to quality care. As we continue to work on behalf of America’s heroes, I want to update you on the legislation the House passed this week with my support:

VA Management Alignment Act of 2017 (H.R. 1066): This bill mandates that the Department of Veteran's Affairs submit a report to the Senate and the House of Representatives that outlines the steps they will take to address mismanagement, increase accountability, and improve veterans’ access to quality care.

Veterans Care Financial Protection Act of 2017 (H.R. 3122): This bill protects individuals who are eligible for an increased pension by having the VA work with federal agencies, states, and experts to combat the works of dishonest, predatory, or otherwise unlawful practices.

To amend title 38, United States Code, to authorize the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to furnish assistance for adaptations of residences of veterans in rehabilitation programs under chapter 31 of such title, and for other purposes (H.R. 3562): This bill authorizes the VA to provide aid to disabled veterans who are seeking help through private rehabilitation programs, specifically in regards to housing and residence of the veteran.

To amend title 38, United States Code, to authorize the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide certain burial benefits for spouses and children of veterans who are buried in tribal cemeteries, and for other purposes (H.R. 3657): This authorizes the VA to provide headstones and markers to families of veterans who are buried in tribal cemeteries.

These bills are an important step towards better serving those who have served for us, many of whom are a part of our great district, and I will continue to support our veterans and military families.

Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime an issue that concerns you comes before the House.

It's an honor to serve you and Virginia's First District in the People's House.

Sincerely,
Rob
