Ensuring the Chesapeake Bay remains a national treasure
I wanted to update you on my work to ensure the Chesapeake Bay remains a top recreational and tourist destination for years to come.
I joined a bipartisan group of Senators and House members to introduce a bill reauthorizing the Chesapeake Gateways and Watertrails program. The Chesapeake Gateways and Watertrails Network is a state, local, and federal partnership of 172 Chesapeake sites, parks, wildlife refuges, and water trails. The Network offers interpretation, education, youth employment, recreation, public access to the Chesapeake Bay and rivers, and trailheads for the Captain John Smith Chesapeake and Star-Spangled Banner national historic trails.
Reauthorizing this program will help sustain the Bay as an economic driver for our region and ensure visitors to the watershed area recognize the Bay as the national treasure that it is.
Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime an issue that concerns you comes before the House of Representatives.
