Wittman Joins 152 House Members in Letter to POTUS on Restoring America’s Military Strength
WASHINGTON – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) joined 152 Members of the House in sending a letter to President Trump supporting his call to restore America’s military strength. In his address to the UN General Assembly last month, President Trump said, “It has just been announced that we will be spending almost $700 billion on our military and defense. Our military will soon be the strongest it has ever been.”
The letter, led by House Armed Services Committee Chairman, Mac Thornberry, states, "We fully support your commitment to increase funding for our military to reverse a mounting readiness crisis and to deter serious and complex threats around the world. We agree a funding level of $700 billion is essential to make our military ‘as strong as it has ever been.’ The House and Senate voted this summer with overwhelming bipartisan margins to authorize and appropriate this level of funding."
"As Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, my objective is to ensure we bring the capability of our Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force closer to meeting the reality of the threats facing the United States and to project power around the globe to deter our adversaries," Wittman stated. "I have long called for an increase in defense spending to promote a robust national defense and ensure our servicemen and women have the tools, training, and equipment they need to complete their mission. At a time when potential adversaries, such as China, Russia, and North Korea, are investing in and expanding their military capabilities, the United States must make a full commitment to restoring our own military.”
