Some summer reading
Like you, I care deeply about the education of our children; so I wanted to update you on what I have been doing in the First District to promote summer learning for elementary school-aged kids.
This week I was a guest reader at the Falmouth YMCA for their Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program. This program is for rising first and second graders who are at risk for not reading at a third grade reading level. This extra practice is designed to keep them on track and reach their full potential.
As the husband of an elementary school teacher, I realize the important role teachers play in educating children. Strengthening America’s education system is important to promoting our economic security and ensuring our democracy. I am committed to ensuring our children have the opportunity to succeed in the 21st Century and I will continue to be an advocate in Congress to ensure that we are living up to our commitment to our Nations’ students by ensuring that the tools and the funding necessary to create a successful learning environment are available.
Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime an issue that concerns you comes before the House, especially if it concerns education.
It's an honor to serve you and Virginia's First District in the People's House.
