Washington, D.C.,
March 5, 2009
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Today, Members of the House of Representatives joined Congressman Rob Wittman in congratulating the University of Mary Washington upon its 100th anniversary on March 14, 2008. The House passed H.Res. 77 (414-0), formally recognizing the significant contributions of the University.
"I am happy to have so many of my colleagues join with me to recognize the rich academic tradition of Mary Washington, and its continued success over these past 100 years," said Wittman. "The First District is home to a number of the Commonwealth's great academic institutions, and Mary Washington stands out as one which has grown from humble beginnings into a nationally acclaimed institution," said Wittman. The University of Mary Washington, located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, combines academic tradition with state-of-the-art technology. It has been recognized nationally as a leading liberal arts college and US News and World Report ranked its master's programs fourth among southern public schools. Currently, the University of Mary Washington has an enrollment of over 5,000 students, offers 43 degree programs, and consists of two campuses. The main campus is located in historic Fredericksburg, and the College of Graduate and Professional Studies is located in Stafford, Virginia. |
