Wittman Receives Thad Cochran Award for Support of Shipbuilding Industry

WASHINGTON- Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) received the American Shipbuilding Suppliers Association’s (ASSA) second annual “Thad Cochran Leadership Award.”

Named after its first recipient, Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi, the award recognizes the public servant that best supported the defense shipbuilding industry and the vast industrial supplier base. The decision was made by a vote of ASSA’s member companies and the results were near unanimous.

“I am truly honored to receive the Thad Cochran Leadership Award.” Wittman said. “The American Shipbuilding Suppliers Association has been extremely helpful not only to me, but my colleagues in making informed decisions on the shipbuilding industry. Their work is even more vital now as we look to increase the size of the Fleet to 355 ships- a number I think accurately answers the demand signal from the Navy. I look forward to working with ASSA and leading Congress on this journey of building a 355 ship fleet.”
