The University of Mary Washington, located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, combines rich academic tradition with state-of-the-art technology to provide one of the best undergraduate liberal arts educations in the country.  The university also offers a variety of internships and study abroad programs that connect students locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

"I am pleased to recognize the important contributions made by the University of Mary Washington, and I wish the university future success as it begins a new century of academic excellence, service and leadership," said Wittman.

University President Judy G. Hample issued the following statement: "I would like to thank Congressman Wittman for this wonderful recognition of the University of Mary Washington's many accomplishments during its first century.  Over the past 100 years, Mary Washington grew from humble beginnings as a state normal school and has now entered its second century of excellence as a nationally recognized university."
