Wittman Statement on Selection of Philip Bilden as Secretary of the Navy

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01), Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces, today released the following statement on the announcement of Philip Bilden as President Donald Trump's selection for Secretary of the Navy.

"Mr. Bilden's commitment to restore our Navy's readiness, capabilities, and control of the seas makes him a fitting choice to lead our United States Navy," Wittman said. "He will serve as our Navy's Secretary during a time when we are witnessing China's unprecedented militarization of unclaimed islands in the South China Sea as well as Russia's expansion of its Naval Fleet, particularly in the undersea domain. These challenges must be met, and America's Navy will be relied upon to provide presence, deterrence, and reassurance to our allies in these strategically important regions. As Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, I look forward to working with Mr. Bilden to rebuild our Navy to 355 ships and ensure that our Sailors and Marines have the resources they need to meet the global maritime challenges of the 21st century."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is the Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
