Poll: Capitalism vs. Socialism

Since taking control of the House of Representatives, House Democratic Leadership has, I believe, promoted and supported pieces of legislation that many Americans would label as “socialistic”, with plans for the federal government to be more in control over citizens’ decisions. Some of these measures include “Medicare for All,” their plan for taxpayer-funded, government run health care that, according to the Congressional Budget Office, would cost Americans trillions of dollars and eliminate the ability for American’s to keep their private health insurance if they wanted to. Other measures include the Green New Deal, a plan to require taxpayers to subsidize federal elections, and a plan to overregulate small businesses in a way that, I believe, would result in thousands of lost jobs.

Last Congress, I was a proud supporter of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a plan by House Republicans to promote American business and pro-growth measures to allow Americans to keep more of their hard-earned money. I believe that the effects of that “capitalistic” legislation has made the United States better off now.

However, there is still a debate between people both in Washington and throughout America on the benefits of capitalism vs. socialism.

Supporters of Capitalism believe that the market operates optimally through less government regulation, and that through freedom and economic opportunity we will reach economic prosperity.

Supporters of Socialism, however, believe we should pursue a “socialist agenda” where government should have more control over citizens’ decisions and balance out the inequalities between the wealthy and everyone else.
