Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01), along with Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH-6), announced the Serving Rural America Act. This legislation would create a five-year pilot grant program at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), authorizing $100 million a year for a total of $500 million over five years to expand broadband service to unserved areas of the country. The Coronavirus outbreak across the nation has further emphasized the need for reliable broadband access in every home in America – this legislation takes the steps to get there.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) voted in favor over $7 billion in emergency funding for the U.S. response to the Coronavirus as well as extending emergency telehealth services. This legislation does not contain any policy riders or political poison pills, and is the product of a bipartisan compromise to address this emergency.

Virginia's economy depends on domestic and international commercial gateways like the Port of Virginia. During his testimony, Congressman Wittman, emphasized the importance of WRDA to the First District to improve inland waterways, flood protection procedures, and ecosystem restoration.

Our nation's debt is out of control – almost $23 trillion dollars. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that during the next 10 years, federal debt held by the public will surge from 81 percent to 98 percent of GDP — the highest debt level since just after World War II and more than twice the average level of the past 50 years. This week, we received the President's Budget for Fiscal Year 2021. The President's Budget included important deficit reduction measures - $4.6 trillion between 2021-2030.
