Congress considered the DRILL Act last week, which failed passage in the House. While I'm glad that we are finally considering energy legislation in Congress, I strongly feel that this bill was not the right approach. I voted against the bill and I want to use this week's update to explain why and to outline my philosophy for solving with the energy crisis.

As someone who commutes 80 miles each way almost every day, I understand the impact of skyrocketing gas prices on family budgets.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman today voted against H.R. 6515, releasing the following statement expressing concern with the nature of the energy legislation:

The First District of Virginia has a rich military heritage.  Our men and women serving in uniform do a remarkable job for our country and they also contribute significantly to their communities.
In Washington, I have the opportunity to serve on the House Armed Services Committee.  Serving on this committee requires an in depth understanding about the needs and missions of the military, and that's why I spend as much time as I can visiting the military installations and leaders around the First District.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman voted in favor of the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Act today, while simultaneously questioning the timing of the legislation.

"I'm glad to vote for this National Historic Trail Designation. It's a positive development for Virginia's First District and recognizes our rich history in the birth of this nation," said Wittman.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman released the following statement regarding Defense Secretary Robert Gates' Tanker announcement earlier today:

"I hope that Department of Defense involvement in this limited re-bid will stabilize the process and provide a resolution by the end of the year. It is absolutely critical that we provide our Air Force with the best possible tanker and that the tanker bidding process be fair and efficient. Each day this process is delayed is another day our Airmen are using a tanker from the 1950s."

I spent the week of Independence Day working throughout the First District. In between working in my district offices, I was honored to spend time with the Coast Guard, take a tour and meet with officials at William & Mary, visit Ferry Farm for the unveiling of archaeological discovery of George Washington's boyhood home, and to meet with constituents in Fredericksburg about gas prices.

(Washington, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman released the following statement regarding InBev Corporation's attempt to acquire Anheuser-Busch:

"I'm very pleased to see that Anheuser-Busch's Board of Directors rejected InBev's takeover bid.  Quite frankly, I'm not sure InBev could ever propose a bid that would adequately reflect the value that Anheuser Busch provides to our country and the First District of Virginia."

Leadership in Space and Aviation development is an American trademark. NASA, the vanguard in space and aeronautics research, embodies our spirit of ingenuity and hard work.

I'm proud to represent the backbone of our country's aeronautics research, the NASA Langley Research Center. I was especially pleased this week to vote in favor of the NASA Authorization, which authorizes $853.5 million for aeronautics research.
