July 17, 2008: Congressman Wittman Calls on Congress to Act on Comprehensive Energy Policy

Thursday, July 17, 2008
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman today voted against H.R. 6515, releasing the following statement expressing concern with the nature of the energy legislation:

"I'm troubled by some of my colleagues' willingness to play politics on this issue.  While they're busy trying to score a political victory, my constituents are suffering.  The fact of the matter is that Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle have some good, substantive ideas on how to reduce energy prices.  Sadly, the majority seems content to ignore those ideas and play gotcha politics instead," said Wittman.

"This just isn't the legislation we need right now.  In a serious energy bill, nothing should be off the table.  We need to drill for American energy, increase refinery capacity, build nuclear power plants, aggressively incentivize conservation, and invest heavily in the development of clean, renewable energy.  Unfortunately, the bill offered today doesn't do the things this Congress needs to do to positively affect the lives of hard working American families," said Wittman.
