Washington D.C. – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman applauded the Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipyard on receiving the U.S. Government's highest rating for excellence in workplace health and safety.  

"Northrop Grumman's employees today continued to demonstrate their commitment to safely building some of the finest vessels that our service members rely on to protect our shores. Performing their jobs to the highest standard of safety and excellence is highly commendable", said Wittman.

Over the past year and a half the Department of Defense and the Navy have been discussing moving an aircraft carrier from Norfolk, VA to Mayport, FL. Just this week the Defense Department released its Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) and the President released his proposed budget. Both the QDR and the President's budget call for moving a carrier to Mayport. I and my colleagues who represent the Hampton Roads region know that this is not the best decision for the Navy or Hampton Roads.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Rob Wittman praised the Nature Conservancy for placing 13,350 acres of land in Dragon Run Swamp on the Middle Peninsula in the largest conservation easement in Virginia history. This acquisition adds to existing protected land at Dragon Run, which now totals in excess of 20,000 acres.

Washington, D.C. Yesterday, Reps. Rob Wittman, Eric Cantor, J. Randy Forbes, Bob Goodlatte, and Frank Wolf penned a letter to Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell supporting his efforts to capitalize on the Commonwealth's abundant natural resources. The Congressmen noted that "Virginia has the opportunity to develop offshore energy in an environmentally friendly manner, while improving our energy security and creating thousands of jobs". WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Rob Wittman announced a Special Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Economic Development Initiative (EDI) to the Food Bank of the Virginia Peninsula in Newport News. The $147,000.00 one time grant will provide for the renovation and buildout of a facility to provide food to low-income citizens.
