WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Rob Wittman announced the award of a $1.45 million grant from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration to fund the Virginia Sea Grant College Program at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science for FY2009. The grant will be used to carry out an extensive portfolio of research, outreach and education on issues that affect Virginia and the Mid Atlantic.
WASHINGTON, DC -Congressman Rob Wittman voted today in support of H.R. 1385, the Thomasina E. Jordan Indian Tribes of Virginia Federal Recognition Act of 2009. The bill, which passed the house by a voice vote, extends federal recognition to the Chickahominy Indian Tribe, the Chickahominy Indian Tribe-Eastern Division, the Upper Mattaponi Tribe, the Rappahannock Tribe, Inc., the Monacan Indian Nation, and the Nansemond Indian Tribe, which have sought federal recognition through legislation for years.
This week in Washington, Congress has taken action to reign in credit card companies from performing unscrupulous business practices. Unfortunately, I've heard from many constituents who have received a letter from their credit card company notifying them that their card's limit has been reduced or their interest rate has been raised without notification.
